CANYONLEIGH RURAL FIRE BRIGADE
SERVING THE COMMUNITY TODAY AND TOMORROW
Our Brigade

The Canyonleigh Rural Bush Fire Brigade was first formed in 1945 by a handful of local landholders, their own vehicles and equipment and were, to a certain extent, self trained. Today the Brigade features an experienced and dedicated upper echelon of Captains and Deputy Captains (past and present) together with a core of well-trained, dedicated members. We have over 20 active members and a total membership in excess of 40.

In 2010, with the support of community donations, council contributions and the RFS, four large concrete water tanks were purchased and installed in four strategically located areas of Canyonleigh. This ensures that easily accessible water is available in the event of emergencies. These are located on Tugalong Road (3 tanks) and Hawkshill Road.

Many of the recent additions to our facilities, including washing machine, workbench, tools, equipment, industrial sized generator, technology. Additional facilities were purchased from very generous donations the brigade received following the devastating 2019/20 Black Summer bush fires from members of the local community and wider followers and supporters of our brigade.
In 2007 brigade members (with assistance from the community) installed three over-head rapid-fill stations in its shed. This allows for trucks to quickly and efficiently refill with water without having to attach any drafting hoses or pump operation.
Brigade Assets
The Canyonleigh Bush Fire Brigade operates two fire trucks: Cat 1 and Cat 7. In 2022/23 our Cat 1 vehicle received a major upgrade to bring it into line with the latest RFS specifications. In 2026 the Brigade received a brand-new Cat 7 truck. Both trucks feature computerised CAD systems and onboard Starlink internet systems. These are housed in the brigade’s triple-bay fire shed which also houses a meeting/conference area, office, bathrooms, laundry, kitchen and general training areas internally and externally.
